Specialty Coffee Transaction Guide 2019
WE DONATED DATA FOR THIS EXTREMELY INTERESTING AND RELEVANT RESEARCH -
WE RECOMMEND HAVING A READ!
The new Specialty Coffee Transaction Guide 2019 has just been published and we are very excited to be part of it! The 2019 report examines the coffee pricing data from 57 data donors, mostly from producers, support organisers, exporters, importers and roasters around the globe. Around 38,000 contracts were evaluated. In addition to the 2019 details the report puts together information from the past 3 ears and shows interesting price development.
The goal of the guide is to use real pricing data within the Specialty Coffee Industry to create a benchmark for prices, which can be used by the both parties to negotiate more sustainable transactions.
To us, the most interesting part of the report was the comparison of the coffee prices over the 3 years (2017-2019):
- The range of prices for lower-quality coffees was lower than that observed for higher-quality coffees.
- For lower quality coffees, lower-end prices declined over the three years - on par with the C-Market
- Median quality coffee prices have been stable (consistent $2.80 per pound)
- Higher quality coffees tend to receive higher prices. In 2018/2019, the median price for scores of 86 to 87.9 ($3.35) was almost double the median price for 82 to 83.9 coffees ($1.83).
- The range of prices was higher in the small sized contracts
We are strong supporters of the traceability in the industry and think there should be more openness. We like the interest in fair pricing for coffee producers and hope to see a world where all involved in our industry will contribute more to the income of producers.
The guide is easy to read and understand and it's free to download.
We recommend of having a look at it!
