The most exciting time of the year is here!
We are excited to announce that the coffee harvest has officially begun!
The Coffee trees are healthy and the harvest is looking be a great one!
The Guatemalan harvest season starts at the end of December and goes until the end of April. This year we are seeing wonderful even maturation in the cherries due to heavy and consistent rains during the rainy season (May - September). Followed by chilly months of November and December, which made the beans develop slower and will soon be ready for picking.
Even though Guatemala has been experiencing general droughts and warmer climate due to the climate change, the weather has been favorable for the coffee trees this year. This means the harvest looks to be big and the producers are hopeful. We are very excited as we are expecting some excellent coffees.
The producers have been making sure they are ready for the busy time by cleaning their pulperos and washing channels, mending bags, preparing patios and making sure they have enough pickers for the right weeks.
We are also preparing our Lab for the hundreds of samples we will be receiving over the next months, making our schedules full with visits to producers and taking our customer's requests of the lots they want to secure. We just finished our new warehouse in Huehuetenango with a pre-cleaning machine to ensure the pergamino is free or rocks, stones or any other debris. We have also ensured processes are quicker at the dry mill so that we can be more efficient with exports.
Follow our stories on Instagram for the harvest updates straight from the lab, farms and mills!
