GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT

Summertime for us means receiving the lots that shipped out during the spring, and this year is no different. Many of the late arrivals are among the best tasting coffees of the year from the highest altitudes. Many of these lots are included in our Arcoiris series. 🌈

We'd like to introduce some of the lots that just came into our warehouse
to those who wish to select their coffees while the rest of Europe is occupied with some leisure time.

Juan received this parcel of land from his father 25 years ago when he married and started his family. However, the land had not been used to grow coffee previously, and like any new project it was difficult at first, requiring investment and a lot of work. In spite of all the challenges he was proud to begin producing coffee, and now that his kids are grown they are able to help with the farmwork and contribute to the success of the family.

Juan and his family process the coffee at their home wet mill, with the entire family pitching in to help.  They also take the time to manually select out defective beans from the lot. Their care and attention to detail translates to outstanding cup quality!

Juan Carlos Vicente is a first generation coffee producer from the Popti Mayan community. He began working on this parcel of land about 8 years ago, and he took on all the farmwork himself in order to keep costs of production low, but only recently did he decide to focus his efforts on producing high quality coffee. This has sparked a new passion in him to improve the quality of the coffee and continue learning, because his family relies on coffee for income.

“One of the most persistent challenges I faced was the distance between the farm and my home. It’s a two hour trek on a very muddy road just to get to the farm where the coffee plants grow. Despite all this, I decided to name this parcel “Rays of Light” - because in all this I found motivation to keep working and moving forward.”

CRISTINA HERNANDEZ

Cristina Hernandez Diaz is a first-generation coffee producer in the town of Petatan in Huehuetenango region. During the harvest Cristina makes sure that only the ripest cherries are picked. Cristina pays more for the pickers to do selective picking and usually this means in total of four passes on the farm during the harvest.

"The farm has been our family livelihood and because of the coffee production, we have been able to afford studies for our children."
